Abstract

In late 2012 the Dutch biodiversity center Naturalis published a tender for the mass digitization of herbarium sheets. Picturae proposed a solution with an industrial approach consisting of a conveyor belt construction with a fully automated processing workflow. From checking the technical parameters of the digital images to cropping and making all the derivatives. The digital images can be delivered to the network right after scanning. This approach makes it possible to produce high quality digital images without expertise of the operator.
